All-On-4 Phoenix Dental Implants: The Complete Guide

One Procedure, One Day, One Permanent Smile

Damaged teeth, declining bone strength and tooth loss affects millions of people each year. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) classifies edentulism—the absence or total loss of natural teeth—as a rising physical impairment (source), causing painful symptoms, deteriorating health and a decreased quality of life.

All-On-4 is a procedure that can resolve even the most crippling dental cases, having restored hope and overall health for thousands of individuals.

What Is All-On-4?

All-On-4 is a minimally invasive, permanent dental implant option. With only four implants on the upper and lower jaw, patients can return to a full, functional smile.

In short, All-On-4 is a streamlined way to replace a patient’s teeth, which were in a state of failure, with something that doesn’t come in and out like conventional dentures. Instead, the result is solid, beautiful and natural-looking teeth that are permanent and function just like ordinary teeth.

Before the Procedure: How to Get Started

The first step to the All-On-4 dental implant procedure is an initial visit and consultation appointment. During this appointment, patients learn about the All-On-4 procedure and its potential risks and benefits. Additionally, this is an important time for dentists to understand patients’ needs and goals in pursuing the All-On-4 treatment, while thoroughly reviewing all medical and dental history.

With Dr. Ginger Price DDS, patients receive a free consultation appointment, including a cone beam. This computed tomography (CT) is a type of x-ray equipment used to produce 3D images of the patient’s teeth, bone, soft tissues and nerve pathways. The CT scan technology allows Dr. Price to virtually place the dental implants on a computer, so the procedure is completely mapped out before surgery even begins.

At the end of the initial visit, patients will have reviewed all of the available options, risks and benefits, along with a comprehensive understanding of the timeline ahead.

The All-On-4 Procedure: How Long Does It Take?

The All-On-4 procedure only takes about four hours altogether for both the upper and lower jaw. If a patient enters surgery with their original teeth intact, the first surgical step is extraction, which typically takes about one to two hours. The remaining two hours are spent placing the dental implants.

There are four implants that support a fixed bridge:

  • • Two vertically placed implants in the anterior, or font of the mouth
  • • Two angled implants in the posterior, or back of the mouth.

These four implants can be inserted in both the upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible).

Who Performs the All-On-4 Procedure?

The All-On-4 procedure is generally performed with a surgeon, dentist and often a lab technician. Dr. Ginger Price has an exceptional team of professionals to ensure the best results for her patients.

The Procedure: How Does It Work?

  1. Dental Implants

The dental implants are tapered posts that look like screws. These screw-like pieces are made of titanium and placed in the jaw bone, acting as a new root for the replacement teeth. The titanium material then osseointegrates, or fuses, with the natural bone. These posts become an exceptionally sturdy foundation for the bridge, or the prosthetic teeth.

The posterior implants (implants toward the back of the mouth) are placed at an angle to enhance bone-to-implant contact and avoid any nerves in the jawbone. Additionally, angled implants in the maxilla (the upper jaw) increases the fusion to better quality anterior bone.

  1. Abutment Attachments

Small straight and angled abutments, or connectors, are screwed into the top of the implants. The abutments then connect the bridge of temporary prosthetic replacement teeth to the solid dental implants.

  1. Temporary Prosthetic Replacement Teeth

The set of teeth provided during the All-On-4 procedure will not be a patient’s final, permanent replacement teeth—although they will be visually appealing and stable.

After adaption, the temporary prosthetic teeth are smoothed and polished. Dr. Ginger Price, at this point, assesses her patient’s bite and esthetics, making sure to provide natural-looking temporary teeth. The provisional prosthesis is screwed into the implants as the fixed temporary teeth until the implants are fully fused and healed.

Post-Procedure: You’ll Never Leave Without Teeth

On the day of surgery, you will leave the office with acrylic replacement teeth that look completely natural. These teeth will stay anchored and in place as the implants heal from three to four months, post-procedure.

During this healing phase, it is important to treat your replacement teeth with care; although the prostheses will function as normal teeth and be maintained like normal teeth, the healing process dictates that patients eat soft food and treat his or her mouth with care in order to yield the most satisfactory permanent dental implants after healing.

Permanent Teeth, Permanent Smile: The Final Replacement Appointment

After three to four months of fusing and healing, patients return to the dentist office to receive their permanent prosthetic teeth.

This appointment involves taking an impression and making any desired visual changes to the last replacement teeth, such as the level of whiteness, length and teeth-to-gum ratio. At Dr. Ginger Price’s office, Dr. Price combines her years of experience as a cosmetic dentist with her unique background in the arts to create a smile that is natural, luminous and enviable.

Who Is a Candidate for the Procedure?

All-On-4 is not just a procedure for edentulous individuals. All-On-4 has changed the lives of many patients who were once told they had no other options, due to deteriorating bone and overly-worked teeth.

After an abundance of procedures, there often isn’t much substance to work with for dental treatments, and many All-On-4 treatment recipients once suffered from:

  • • Gum disease
  • • Excessive root canals
  • • Decay
  • • Ill-fitting crowns
  • • Pain
  • • Bad breath
  • • Crippled teeth
  • • A lack of sociability due to self-consciousness

All-On-4 is suitable for a wide variety of patients. In fact, very few are not eligible for the procedure.

Who Would Be Ineligible for the All-On-4 Procedure?

Only a select few may not be a candidate for the versatile procedure, although this scenario would be exceptionally uncommon. In fact, the majority of patients who receive the All-On-4 treatment heard they were unqualified for dental solutions prior to discovering the All-On-4 treatment option.

Ineligibility would be determined during the consultation appointment and exam when the dentist reviews the patient’s medical records. In very few cases, individuals with rare, overriding medical conditions or unusual medications may not be eligible for the procedure; however, this is an infrequent occurrence and can only be determined after a thorough consultation with a dentist.

Common Concerns and Questions Regarding All-On-4

In the initial consultation phase of the All-On-4 process, patients have common questions and concerns regarding the procedure itself, as well as the results:

“Will it hurt? I’m concerned about pain”

Depending on the initial condition of your teeth, patients can expect mild to moderate discomfort. Most patients report having very little pain at all.

Those who have teeth extracted before the procedure may experience moderate pain; however, after about three days of “laying low” and appropriate pain medication post-procedure, you should feel healthy, rejuvenated and better than ever.

“Is All-On-4 Expensive?”

Although the procedure may seem like a large investment, it actually saves patients money over time and is more cost-effective than conventional implant restoration.

Over time, patients who choose not to receive All-On-4 dental implants typically undergo individual implants and health treatments related to their condition. This can leave patients in financial ruin. All-On-4 is cost-effective and less invasive than other conventional treatments.

“Will I Really Get Teeth in One Day?”

Yes! Although the teeth you walk out with on the day of your procedure are temporary, acrylic teeth that will be replaced after three to four months of healing. At that time, your dentist will fit you with your permanent teeth, making any esthetic changes you request or that he or she deems beneficial.

How Many Appointments Will I Have to Go to?”

After the day of your procedure, you will return in about three to four months for the insertion of your permanent teeth and fitting. At this point, patients simply return for regular appointments twice a year for normal cleaning and maintenance.

How Difficult Is It to Maintain the Permanent Prosthetic Teeth?”

Easier than ever! Your new, permanent replacement teeth will act like natural teeth in every way; this means regular brushing and flossing.

Fifteen Years of Clinical Success: The Benefits of All-On-4

To say there are many benefits of the All-On-4 treatment is an understatement. This procedure has changed the lives of thousands of individuals whose quality of life was deteriorating daily.

Aside from a remarkable increase in social confidence and happiness, those who receive All-On-4 benefit from:
