Don't Let Annual Dental Beneifts Expire

The end of a year is near. That means your annual dental insurance benefits could be expiring. If your benefits are based on the calendar year, take full advantage of them before it’s too late. To save money and improve dental health, consider the following:

Act Before a Deductible Renews

If you’ve already met your dental insurance deductible for the year, this is the time to schedule any needed treatments or determine if care is required. Should you decide to put off a procedure until next year, you will have to meet the deductible again. That means a higher out-of-pocket cost for treatment.

Use Routine Care Coverage

If your insurance allows for two preventive dental visits each year, you’ll want to use both of these appointments, especially since many providers pay for routine care in full. To protect your dental health, take advantage of checkups, X-rays, and cleanings covered by insurance. By receiving preventive care, you’ll protect against future issues that may require a co-payment. So you may save time and money in the long run.

Make the Most of Maximums

Most dental providers have a maximum amount that they will spend on care during a twelve-month period. If you do not use these benefits, they are lost. You want to utilize all of your benefits when a procedure is needed. Let’s say your annual maximum is $2,000.  Your plan has paid out $1,100 this year, and you currently need treatment. By receiving this treatment now, you can take advantage of the remaining benefits you have available.

Plan for Extensive Care

If you need an extensive dental procedure performed in phases, you may be able to make optimal use of insurance benefits and maximums over a two-year period. The first phase of care could be done at the end of this year, and the next phase at the start of 2014.

Check Flexible Spending Accounts

If you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), any pre-tax earnings could be lost if left in the account at year’s end. Remember that FSA funds can often go toward non-cosmetic dental treatments.

Of course, every dental plan is unique. We are happy to work with your provider to determine exact coverage. Call us soon to make the most of your benefits. Happy Holidays!

Testimonials

I learned of Dr. Price when I moved to the area several years ago and sought out a top dentist with both general and cosmetic dentistry skills. Dr. Price came highly recommended and I've been with her ever since. Both Dr. Price and her staff are warm, caring, and tops in every way.
