How did you become interested in the dental field?

Unfortunately, as a child I had some negative experiences, which left me with a fear of dental visits. As an adult, I faced my fears, and I now work for a doctor that understands people like me! Today, I am actually comfortable sitting in the dental chair. In my role as the hygiene coordinator for Dr. Price, I have seen her gentle approach to care. She can patiently calm those who are worried, or even afraid, about receiving dental treatments.

What do you enjoy most about working in our office?

I just love the atmosphere here. It feels more like a spa than a clinic! I also love that we’re a true team, and we look out for one another as we take care of patients.

What is it like to work with Dr. Price?

She is a dentist with a heart of gold! She honestly cares about her patients and staff, practicing with integrity as a real professional. It is a pleasure to work for such a kind person!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I moved here from California. It was my childhood dream to come to Arizona. Now I am realizing my dream of living and working here.

In 2006 Rochelle G. came in for a consultation to learn her options for getting her smile back. Since periodontal disease is often painless, be aware of these warning signs:

• Bleeding gums, even after gentle brushing
• Red, tender or swollen gums
• Frequent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth
• Changes in alignment when biting down
• Loose or shifting permanent teeth
• Gums that are receding or pulling away from teeth

Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky bacterial film that forms on the surface of teeth. Early stage gum disease, called gingivitis, may develop if plaque is not removed properly. If you notice that your gums are red, swollen or bleeding easily, you may have this common form of periodontal disease. The good news is that gingivitis is reversible! You can stop it in its tracks with regular dental cleanings and proper daily brushing and flossing.

Prompt treatment of gingivitis also helps you avoid periodontitis, a more serious form of gum disease.

Chronic periodontitis causes the loss of the connective tissue and bones that support teeth. With this type of gum disease, teeth may feel loose. They can move and separate. The changes are often subtle, progressing slowly. However, gum disease can also be aggressive and cause rapid loss of tissue and bone.

Poor oral hygiene often leads to gum disease, but these factors may also increase your risk:

• Smoking or chewing tobacco
• Pregnancy
• Diabetes
• A family history of the disease
• Crooked teeth that are hard to clean
• Medications, such as steroids, cancer drugs, and oral contraceptives

Remember, regular dental cleanings and examinations are essential to preventing gum disease. If you’re diagnosed with gingivitis or another periodontal disease, we’ll develop a treatment plan for your specific needs. You may require more frequent cleanings and checkups for a period of time, because we want to get rid of the gum disease and keep it from coming back.

How did you become interested in the dental field?

I have always had a fascination with teeth and beautiful smiles. When I was 18 years old, I met a wonderful dentist who taught me a great deal about the profession. I began my career as a dental assistant and then worked in dental supply sales for six years. Now, I am in the rewarding position as the treatment coordinator for Dr. Price. I love dentistry as much today as when my career began 13 years ago.

What do you enjoy most about working in our office?

I get the greatest satisfaction from the seeing patients’ reactions after their dental work is done, whether that is routine oral care, a simple teeth whitening appointment or a more involved cosmetic dental procedure. Patients leave our office feeling healthier, happier, and well cared for by our team. It’s gratifying to have a role in giving patients back their smiles!

What is it like to work with Dr. Price?

Patients walk into Dr. Price’s office with needs, questions, and sometimes even fears. I love the fact that when they leave the office, they’re informed and confident in the care that’s ahead. Believe it or not, patients even get excited about starting treatments after meeting Dr. Price, her wonderful dental assistants, and me. Dr. Price is the most talented and thorough dentist I have had the pleasure of working with, and I am proud to stand beside her every day.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I am originally from Alabama. I came to Arizona about nine years ago. I have two handsome boys—Dyson who’s thirteen and Gannon who is eight. We’re an avid college football family. When I am not working, you can find me watching one of my boys play football or cheering for the teams in my home state…War Eagle and Roll Tide!

As she continues to enhance her professional knowledge in medicine, Dr. Price also keeps her vision and creativity alive by continuing to pursue the arts. So she recently took classes at the Bullseye Studio in Emeryville, California. The Bullseye Glass Company designs distinctive glass pieces for both art and architecture. It also offers instruction on creating a variety of glass artwork using a kiln.

In architecture, kiln-glass pieces are used as lighting fixtures, furniture and other design elements. Artists can also create everything from platters to sculptures with kiln-glass methods that reveal remarkable patterns, lines and colors. During her Bullseye courses, Ginger Price learned new design skills, including pate de verre (paste of glass). This technique, once used by ancient artists, involves layering glass grains into a mold for firing. She tapped into her sense of movement, composition and color as she designed glass artwork in this course and other kiln-glass sessions.

Dr. Price continues to refine her artistic talents because she knows they harmonize with the science of dentistry. There are parallels to designing artwork and transforming a smile. How did you become interested in a dental career?

When I was a teenager, I had to have quite a bit of dental work done. During my appointments, the dental assistant was very kind. She made such a difference in my experience. When I went to that office, I knew I would have someone’s hand to hold, someone to provide support. And I wanted to be that person for other dental patients.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love being a part of a team that’s committed to giving someone their smile back. Because our office offers a range of dental services, I can actually help as a patient regains the ability to chew or to live comfortably again. Since Dr. Price stays on top of the latest technologies, I am also constantly learning new techniques. I am proud to be part of an awesome group of professionals that I can also call my friends!

What is it like assisting Dr. Price in her practice?

Can you tell us about yourself?

I have been a dental assistant for 30 years. (Yes, I started when I was ten.) I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 29 years, and we have raised three amazing daughters.
