Saliva is Good!
Believe it or not, saliva flow helps protect your teeth because it defends against plaque build up. If you need to generate more of it, try making sugar free chewing gum part of the routine to increase saliva and fight tooth plaque.

Chew on Crudités
Fresh, fibrous, raw vegetables and crunchy fruits help keep your teeth white because they are gently abrasive. Chewing them stimulates the gums and promotes blood flow which is good for your mouth, gums and teeth.

Munch on Fruits
Malic acid is that tart or sour sensation you experience when you bite into different fruits (grapes, apples, cherries, strawberries) but you probably didn’t know that it can actually help to whiten teeth as well.

Dairy
Dairy products such as milk, cheese and yogurt provide a variety of essential nutrients. You can benefit from vitamins A, B12, and riboflavin and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and zinc. When combined, the nutrients casein, calcium and phosphorus help strengthen teeth and work to create a protective protein film over the enamel surface of the tooth.

Brush & Floss

So you are probably wondering just how a dentist gets included in the annual Phoenix Magazine and so we thought we would share the details.

Phoenix Magazine sends out surveys to dental Phoenix clinics around the valley and the dental Phoenix finalists are selected through peer review. The magazine randomly asks different dental professionals to nominate those dentists who are the best in their particular area of specialty.

Dental professionals are surveyed instead of patients because dentists have the professional expertise to assess their peer’s qualifications instead of simply giving an opinion. Of course, they do have their subjective viewpoints but peer reviews are very powerful votes of confidence.

Dr Ginger is honored to be voted a best dentist in Phoenix for her area of specialty, cosmetic dentistry AZ.

Once the dental Phoenix surveys are returned, Phoenix Magazine verifies the information that is included. Staff members then check with Arizona state’s dental board to omit any practitioner convicted of malpractice or who has faced other disciplinary actions.

At the moment, cosmetic dentistry has not yet been recognized as a specialty by the American Dental Association, but since more and more dentists specialize in cosmetic procedures, including this specialty category provides a valuable resource to the magazine readers.

Being included as a finalist once doesn’t guarantee that a dentist will be on the list again, or on it each year because the peer review takes place annually. However Dr Ginger has been on the list several times.

Ginger Price DDS Family Cosmetic Dentistry in Arizona is a designated Invisalign Preferred Provider and although this isn’t something new, we did think that this might be a good time to review some best practices tips for our clients who are wearing Invisaligns.

If you have any trouble getting them on or off, or if your aligners cause intense pain or severe discomfort, make sure you call us right away.

Above all, we want you to know that it is critical for you to wear your Invisaligns as directed by Dr Ginger Price. This means wearing them each day for 20-22 hours so you get the best results.

Invisalign Cleaning & Maintenance

Be sure to develop a consistent practice when it comes to insertion and removal of your Invisaligns. For instance, when not worn, they should be stored properly inside their case to protect them from getting misplaced or damaged.

One of the best habits is to clean them before each insertion by using a small dab of toothpaste and a soft bristle toothbrush. Then once a week, you should take the time to use the Invisalign cleaning system.

Avoid any other cleaners such as denture creams, solutions or mouthwash since they can damage the aligners and cause them to lose their sheen.

Eating & Drinking with Invisaligns
Always remove your aligners for eating and drinking (except for cool water). Before reinsertion, clean your teeth (brush/floss), and clean your Invisaligns with a dab of toothpaste and a soft brush.

Invisalign Best Practices

Practice good hygiene when handling your aligners–so make sure to thoroughly wash your hands prior to inserting or removing the Invisaligns.

Insertion
The U indicates the upper aligner and the L indicates the lower but it doesn’t matter which one you insert first. Start by pushing your selected aligner over your front teeth and then, using your fingers, slowly move back to the molars. Use consistent pressure and equally apply it as you firmly press down until the aligner snaps into place.

Removal
Start at one side and gently pull off the molars as you guide the aligner off your teeth and work your way up to the front, and then around to the other side. Be careful! Also be sure to take your time so you avoid twisting or bending them.

Once off, clean and rinse each one thoroughly. Remove excess water and store in your protective case.

How to Begin the GBAS Cosmetic Dentistry Process

If you know someone whose smile has sustained injury after abuse from a former intimate partner or spouse, urge them to contact GBAS toll-free at (800) 773-4227 to begin the process to rejuvenate their smile.

Next, an appointment with their counselor, domestic violence advocate, social worker, or therapist is necessary to help them to complete the advocate section of the GBAS application.

The Give Back a Smile Program will then perform an initial review of the application, however, the dentist has the final say as to the eligibility of the applicant. Once eligibility is determined, AACD will connect the applicant with a local GBAS volunteer dentist who will provides treatment at no charge to the recipient of the services.

“Because more than 5 million people are affected by domestic violence every year in the United States and Canada, there is clearly a need for a program like GBAS to help survivors rejuvenate their lives through the caring hands of a local dentist,” Dr. Price said.

In July 2001, the AACD was one of only eight organizations in the world to receive the Award of Excellence and the prestigious Associations Advance America Summit Award for its GBAS program.

The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), of Washington, D.C., sponsors this yearly national competition to recognize the charitable organizations that make the most effort to advance American society.
